About This Program

The gold standard of yoga teacher training, conducted in the birthplace of yoga itself. This month-long immersion in Rishikesh covers asana practice and teaching methodology, anatomy and physiology, pranayama and meditation, yoga philosophy (Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, Bhagavad Gita), teaching practicum with real students, and Ayurvedic nutrition basics. You will live in an ashram on the banks of the Ganges, wake before dawn for practice, and be challenged physically, mentally, and spiritually. Upon completion, you receive your Yoga Alliance RYT-200 certification. This is not a vacation — it is a pilgrimage.

A month that rewired my life

I went to Rishikesh to get a yoga certification. I came back a different person. Waking at 5 AM for pranayama on the Ganges, studying the Sutras with teachers who have practiced for 40 years, chanting in Sanskrit, doing my first solo teaching practicum — every day stripped away another layer of who I thought I was. The ashram was simple but clean. The food was incredible (sattvic diet). The other students became family. This is not a yoga vacation. It is a dismantling and a rebuilding. Budget $2,500 total including flights from the US. Best money I have ever spent.

Great training, rough conditions

The teaching quality was excellent and I feel confident leading classes now. But I want to be honest about conditions: the accommodation was very basic (cold water some mornings, occasional insects, thin mattress on the floor). The food was good but if you are not used to Indian vegetarian cuisine, your stomach will protest for the first week. Rishikesh itself is beautiful but chaotic — traffic, cows, aggressive monkeys. If you can handle the discomfort, the training is world-class. If you want comfort, look at Bali-based YTTs instead.
